FAQs
What is Wildflower Meadows?
Wildflower Meadows is a child-led, nature-based alternative provision supporting children who struggle in traditional settings due to anxiety, emotional-based school avoidance (EBSA), neurodivergence, or trauma. We are not a school but a nurturing space where children can rebuild confidence, develop life skills, and connect with others in a supportive environment.
Where are you based?
We are located in Burghfield, West Berkshire and are currently finalising the details of our setting. We will announce our official location as soon as our lease is confirmed. Our solicitor is working hard to make sure everything is just right!
When will you be open?
We plan to open in April 2025 once our site is fully prepared and safe for children.
What are your opening hours?
We will be open Monday to Friday, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm, term-time only.
Do you follow a curriculum?
No, we do not follow a traditional curriculum as we are not an education provider. Our approach is fully child-led, meaning children engage in activities based on their interests and needs. This could include outdoor play, creative projects, cooking, gardening, and practical life skills.
Who can attend Wildflower Meadows?
We welcome children who:
Struggle with traditional settings due to anxiety, EBSA, neurodivergence, or trauma.
Are home-educated and seeking a flexible, supportive environment.
Are enrolled in school but require additional support through an alternative provision.
Is Wildflower Meadows only for children with SEND?
No, Wildflower Meadows is for any child who thrives in a nurturing, nature-based, and child-led environment. While we provide tailored support for children with additional needs, many of the children who join us do so simply because they love hands-on, interest-led experiences. Our provision is open to all children who benefit from connection, exploration, and creativity.
Do children need an EHCP to attend?
No, an EHCP is not required for admission.
How do I apply for a place?
Families can register their interest via our website. Once applications open, we will guide families through our admission process, including a site visit, risk assessment, and trial session before confirming a place.
When do I pay for sessions?
Fees are invoiced per term in advance to secure your child’s place.
What kind of activities do you offer?
We provide a mix of outdoor and creative activities based on each child’s interests. These may include:
Outdoor play & Forest School activities (den building, nature walks, animal care)
Creative expression (art, music, crafts)
Cooking & life skills (baking, gardening, sensory play)
Social & emotional support (mindfulness, storytelling, peer connection)
Do children have to take part in all activities?
No. Everything is child-led, meaning children choose what they want to engage in, with facilitators available to guide and support when needed.
Do you offer full-time places?
No, self funded children can attend a maximum of 2 days per week and those funded places can do a maximum of 3 days per week.
Can parents stay on-site?
We understand some children may need extra reassurance at first, and we are happy to discuss a gradual transition plan where a parent/carer stays initially.
How can I support Wildflower Meadows?
We are always grateful for support! You can help by:
Donating items (toys, books, outdoor equipment, art supplies)
Volunteering your time or skills
Spreading the word in your local community
